A Relaxing Treat at Home-O-Pathy Wellness Spa

I spent a day with the great Reysa Alenzuela. For all you know, dear Capizenos, Dr. Alenzuela is one of the most revered figures in the field of librarianship and information science here in the Philippines and she’s already got a well-feathered cap. She spent her 20s working as the director of the Learning Resource Center of the University of Iloilo while taking her master’s degree in Library and Information Science as a scholar at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. She also got a bachelor’s degree in Laws, although she wasn’t able to take the Bar. Not because she lacked the wits (she’s got an overflowing cauldron for all the world to know!) but the thing is, she didn’t have the time. She’s also got a doctor’s degree in philosophy, with specialization in educational management.

In 2006, she was invited to work at the US Embassy in Manila, where she worked as the director of the Thomas Jefferson Information Center, the main provider of all the learning resource materials in the various American Corners in selected libraries spread throughout the Philippines. Dr. Alenzuela’s six years in the embassy was a busy one and it was capped by awards! Last year, ( she was only 35 [?])she decided it’s time to take a new career path. She admitted her shelf life in every organization is only as good as five years.

Mr. Melchon Cichon wrote a nicely-woven bio of Dr. Alenzuela so I encourage everyone to check it out if you want to know more about her.

Dr. Alenzuela was most generous to show me around her spa, Home-o-Pathy, a thriving enterprise which she opened together with her brother and a friend in Australia. It’s just a few months old, but the wellness center really holds a lot of promise! I learned about their marketing strategy and I was pretty happy to hear about what they do to attract customers. The manager who was most accommodating and jovial told me that they actually hold soirees during seminars and conventions where they give 10-minute massages to interested individuals. If they wish to enjoy the hour-long service, they can book for a massage therapy at the venue of their choice.

I was offered a massage, but I begged to say no because I had to travel back home. But Doc Reysa’s manager insisted and instead offered me a facial, which kinda appealed to me, so I said yes. It was a fruit facial and I was happy to know that the ingredients were all-organic: pounded rice, honey, olive oil and oats. I enjoy the nice chit-chat with the manager and Doc Reysa while my face was smoothly massaged and scrubbed. It was indeed a perfect treat for tiresome day!

Dear fellow Capiznons, if you happen to spend a few days in Iloilo, don’t forget to check out Dr. Reysa Alenzuela’s spa and relaxation center. Home-o-pathy indulges you with a variety of massage therapies: Swedish, shiatsu, lomi-lomi and the Home-o-pathy signature massage. And don’t just treat your body. Give yourself a treat with the fruit facial (highly recommended!) and the aroma therapy special and you’ll emerge feeling just like brand new!

Home-o-pathy Mobile Spa and Relaxation Center offers strictly clean relaxation service. Visit the nook and relax at the Ground Floor Adana Builidng, Jalandoni Street, Jaro (near Jollibee Jaro and besides PSBank).
