If you want to enjoy sumptuous home cook meals in an
ambiance that feels like home, then, Ang Kamalig Restaurant is the right
destination for you. The restaurant is owned by the Carlo’s Bakeshop Group, the
persons behind Carlo’s are Iloilo City Representative Jerry P. Trenas and wife,
Rosalie. Last March the children wanted
to bring back one of the best restaurants that catered the Ilonggo since 1989,
and so, Ang Kamalig Restaurant once again opened its doors to guests who are
craving for perfect Ilonggo flares.
Kamalig is the Ilonggo word for the hut or wooden house that
serves as storage place for rice hulls or other farm produce. Homey, relaxing,
and ideal for a date or two or bonding moments with family and friends. It's definitely
a lovely place and prides of offering authentic Ilonggo cuisines. Conceptualizing the motif of the restaurant, from the
decors, to the menu, is a concerted effort and I should say the results are
really astounding! There’s this interior that clean and relaxing. The furniture
are all in white, which gives the eyes that perfect rest it needs, especially
for people who are tired after a long day at work—a nice complement for a
palatable dinner that’s waiting to be served! There are touches of Filipino interior
décor as well, which would make any guest feel it’s really a home for Filipinos
and Filipinos at heart.
I was offered their appetizers: bagnet, pig's ear chicharon
and chicharong bulaklak. It was homemade really. A bite would let u know its
fresh from the kawali! And freshly prepared. Then they offered me their callos
which came at excellent portion size and heartily prepared with rich
ingredients. It matches my taste buds. Hmmmm. And natural and fresh calamansi
juice for the drinks. Other best-sellers
in the restaurant are their chicken inasal spring rolls, pancit molo, lengua
estofado, kadios, and manok ubad sa gata. For their dessert, the tablea
chocolate cake is the best finale for your gastronic adventure.
I came to the restaurant unknowingly that they were on a
test opening and so meals were free (which I didn’t know, too). Play money was
given to me before I ordered the menu. Just like other walk in guests. The
manager handed me an amount that’s worth 800 and if the order exceeded the, I
had to pay the excess. I was done with dinner and so I asked for bill nill. The
waiter showed me how much and I was ready to give him cash. Instead, he asked
me for the play money and explained to me that my bill didn’t exceed the amount
they gave me, so my dinner was free! Nice marketing strategy! But I promise I’ll
write a nice post to help promote the resto. So here it is! I checked the price
of their flares. For the relaxing venue, on-time service ( the orders I made
were served roughly five minutes), and mouthwatering, authentically Ilonggo
food, I give Ang Kamalig two thumbs up! Visit
