CCP features Capisnon folk dance

 


The Municipality of Cuartero's Sayaw kay San Antonio de Padua was featured in Cultural Center of the Philippines 's TA(Y)O: Daloy ng Katauhan, Indak ng pagkakakilanlan.

This program showcases nine dance-movies from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in an attempt to kindle the imagine and give meaning to the Filipino identity. 


Cuartero's sayaw is a dance ritual, performed by young girls, in honor of San Antonio de Padua, the patron saint of the town. It is a thanksgiving for all the blessings received by the Cuarteronhons through the intercession of San Antonio de Padua. The ritual sees the residents prepare food offerings to be given during the sayaw. 


The food offerings are considered as “pendesillo”of San Antonio which the residents and the guest will partake after the dance. It is a tradition of the Cuarteronhons, It entertains guest with the intricacies of weaving colorful ropes which are tied at the topmost portion of a pole by each dancer. The grand finale is the fast movements of the dancers while weaving the ropes into 12 weaving designs.
