Roxas City on Fire? Heritage Zone turns red as nod to End Polio Now campaign

The Roxas City Government turned the Heritage Zone's interactive light display red in commemoration of World Polio Day. 


Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system. 


According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, October 24 is designated as the World Polio Day in celebration of the birth of Jonas Salk, the American researcher who developed the first polio vaccine in 1955. provides an opportunity to highlight global efforts toward a polio-free world and honor the tireless contributions of those on the frontlines in the fight to eradicate polio from every corner of the globe. 


Rotary International   Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years through its End Polio Now campaign.
